Getting Married in Ireland
When marrying in Ireland you have two main options, a full legal registration here in Ireland, or complete the legal aspects in your home country and have a symbolic ceremony here at the Quiet Man Station.
Couples wishing to get married at Castletown Station have various options about the structure and content of the ceremony, but the main decision you must make, as non-residents, is whether to have a legal registered marriage certificate here in Ireland, or whether to take care of the legal aspect in your own country and have a symbolic and meaningful ceremony here in Ireland instead. With the Quiet Man Elopements, you can either depending on your wishes. Unlike many traditional outdoor elopement locations, Castletown Station is an official public building with the facilities to legally conduct official marriage registration on the premises. We also have our official legal solomniser, Nicola McGuire, who can perform the symbolic ceremony and also legally empowered to officially register your marriage under Irish law.
Option 1) Perhaps the more straight-forward option is to register your marriage in your home country before you leave for Ireland, you could even ask a friend or family member to file your papers on the same day as your ceremony here at the Quiet Man Station, so that your official wedding anniversary will match your Irish Elopement ceremony. The majority of non-resident Elopers opt for this option as it's the simplest and most hassle-free, however, if you wish to have a full Irish wedding you can always decide on option 2!
Option 2) You can contact the HSE Registration offices here in Ireland and request an application form. This form must be completed and returned to the HSE Registration office at least 3 months prior to your wedding day (and even earlier if you were legally married before and since divorced, all details can be found at; https://www2.hse.ie/services/births-deaths-and-marriages/getting-married/how/ ).
Once authorised, you will then have 6 months in which to have your wedding, and once a date is selected, you must schedule an appointment and attend at the HSE office at least 5 days prior to the wedding date (requiring you to travel to Ireland approximately a week before your wedding ceremony). There is a €200 fee applicable, paid directly to the HSE. At your meeting 5 days before your wedding you will be presented with the official green folder and you must bring this with you to the ceremony where it will be signed in the presence of the Quiet Man official solomniser, Nicola, during your wedding ceremony. Easy peasey.
