Frequently Asked Questions
"You've a tongue like an Adder... will you wist a minute while I answer your questions?"
1) "Can you tell me the way to Inisfree?"
Getting to Ireland is easy, with 5 international airports located in the country and two within an hour's drive of Castletown Station. You can book your international flight from the US to Shannon or Dublin and take a bus to Galway where you will be picked up and checked into your chosen hotel. On the morning of the wedding, you will be picked up by vintage car and driven to Castletown Station for your ceremony. Following your marriage ceremony, you will then be brought to picturesque Cong, approx 45 minutes away, where you can check-in to the Lodge at Ashford, or the 5 star world-renowned Ashford Castle Estate, before dining in Cohan's bar, made famous by the film.
2) "Castletown?"
The first place you must come to is Castletown Station, where the whole long story begins. The Quiet Man Station is one of the main locations used in the film, with both interiors and exterior shots filmed there (the only such location used in Ireland) and where 2 weeks of a two month Irish location shoot was allocated. Located approximately 45 minutes away from Cong, where the rest of Castletown Village was filmed, the station is the first step of your wedding journey, before heading to Cohan's for a celebration and a pint of the 'black beer'.
2) "Is it true?! that you can elope to Ireland behind their backs, right under their noses?"
Yes you can! This newly established Elopement service offers a premier package based on the most Irish of Irish Films, the legendary John Ford classic, The Quiet Man. Here you can stay at a nearby hotel in the 'Fields of Athenry', where your can have your morning preparations, complete with hair and makeup specialists, before being whisked away by a vintage car to the magical Castletown Station. You can decide to have a full legal marriage registration here at the Station or do the pleasantries back home and have a symbolic, Quiet Man themed wedding here at the station.
3) "Tell me this, is it Salmon or Trout you're looking for?"
You can have either, and a whole menu of Irish classics at the excellent Cohan's Bar and Restaurant in the heart of Cong. Once your ceremony is complete, you will have opportunity to get photos and video at the station before we travel to Cong for more photos and a short tour, check-in at the glorious Lodge at Ashford, before heading into Cohan's for a slap-up meal and a pint.
4) "Will you step into the parlour? The house may belong to me brother.. but what's in the parlour belongs to me..."
You will indeed step into the world of The Quiet Man, retracing the steps of Sean Thornton onto the platform and through the doors of the station into an immersive experience with surround sound music from the movie, accompanied by a Harpist playing and singing songs from the film. Surrounded by the Irish countryside in the heart of Ballyglunin, you will feel the presence of history, it's the closest you can get to being in the movie!
5) "Will there be anything else?"
From "The Wild Colonial Boy' to the Wild Atlantic Way, you can enjoy exploring the Irish countryside and discover Ireland's beautiful coastline and rich heritage of festivals and history, and visit the many sites and movie locations from the movie, from W. B. Yeats' famous home at Thoor Ballylee to the Quiet Man Bridge at Leam (outside Oughterard), to the ancient beauty and hospitality of Cong, Ireland has a warm welcome waiting for you.
